Verified ReviewerMisleading Advertised Claim Amounts
- - In-network preventive 100%; out-of-network 90%.
- - The claim lists a discounted Accepted Fee and a Max Allowance; Dentegra pays ~27% after deductible.
Preventive Services pay 100% "In Network" and supposed to pay 90% "Out of Network" - we are well established at our dentist with no intent to change back to a cheaper, 'gentle'r dental provider that just cannot provide good service.
* Claim includes an Accepted Fee described as "The discounted price Dentegra and your dentist agreed to in their contract."
* Claim also includes a Maximum Contract Allowance described as "the most your dental plan will pay for a service" => in-network providers have agreed to the *low*low*low* amount, roughly 30% of the Accepted Fee. No wonder they cannot afford to provide good service.
Result is Dentegra pays less than 27% AFTER you pay your deductible.
Customer Service quickly responds, but without answering your question.
Contacting again for clarification is ignored.
Contacting a 3rd time with extremely specific question results in canned answer (seemed like copy/paste), still not addressing what you ask. Oh, and do not ask 2 questions in one contact = too much for them to ready more than the first question...
- That is about it
- Name sounds cool
- Better dental insurance
- Watch out for waiting periods even when switching from prior
Preferred solution: *Truth in advertising*
User's recommendation: Do not use this insurance company UNLESS YOU WANT TO USE A SUBPAR dental provider. You are better off paying your dentist directly.

Verified Reviewer |Provider List
- - Finding Dentegra providers is hard, with only low-rated options; premiums are affordable, but coverage is restrictive with a 12-month payment wait.
When looking for a provider, at least in my state, no one accepted Dentegra except for the providers that had 1 to 2-star reviews. I had to make several phone calls just to find a provider that would accept the insurance, only to find predatory dental offices that upsell and pressure you with multiple bad reviews.
Dentegra also makes you wait at least 12 months before they will pay for restorative dental services. The monthly premiums are affordable, but be aware of the restrictive coverage and benefit approval wait time of 12 months.
- Affordable premium
- Limited netwotk

Verified ReviewerThey misrepresented the cost.
- - They quoted $166 for one year and $266 for two years.
- - They changed to monthly payments of $36, which I didn't agree to.
They quoted a year and two years and changed it to monthly, and the payments were much more. They said the cost was $166 for one year and $266 for two years. I agreed to that and right before we hung up, she said that she had put it in the computer with monthly payments of $36.00 and I didn't agree to that.
User's recommendation: Don’t do it
United Healthcare can't help your dentist cannot help dentegra cannot help why
- - Dentegra is listed by UnitedHealthcare, but dentists don’t accept it.
- - You can’t reach anyone at Dentegra.
- - UnitedHealthcare provides a dentist reference number.
2 years call dentists United Healthcare gives you. They do not take dentegra even though according to United Healthcare they are on the list.
You can't speak to someone at dentegra. United Healthcare will give you a reference number for your dentist. Dentist tries to call dentegra they get nowhere. Exhausted disappointed.
Changing my insurance company ,UHC. Forget Dentegra waste of time after hours with both companies on the phone.
Don’t pay claims!!
- - Signed up for dental insurance 2 years ago and set autopay.
- - Dentist dropped from network; no claims paid, $600 owed; promised checks not received.
I am a small business owner , 2years ago I signed up for this dental insurance. I went to their site and set up autopay.
Went to their site and found a Dentist. Went to that dentist and paid my copays. This spring I went in for appointment and was told that they were no longer in their network and they had not paid a single claim and I owed $600. I called and they said they would send me checks today I get a cancellation letter said payment did not go through plenty of money in account!!
Never had a payment returned!
No Checks!!! Never in 2years did they pay a claim!!!
User's recommendation: No!!!
Everything is horrible
- - Many providers on their site don't accept the insurance.
- - Payouts are poor and few accept it.
- - The website and phone service are poor.
Ditto everything everyone else is complaining about: most of the providers on their website don't in fact take the insurance, their payouts are horrible (which explains why no one accepts it), the website is a joke, even their phones are awful (I got disconnected twice today, had to speak to five people to get my problem "solved"). It's all bad news.

Verified Reviewer |Poor business practice & reviews
- - Tried to get a standard denture replacement cost estimate; got a runaround.
- - Pricing missing; insurance only recognizes Dentegra and a $2,000 benefit.
Tried to get some sort of cost estimate for standard replacment denture only got runaround, they had no standard pricing schedule, worst reviews on the internet so decided to go with "Affordable Denture", as they had pricing schedule, good review only thing my "Humana Gold Plus PPO Insurance" only recognize Dentegra, what's the use of having insurance if they only work with the "Worst" dentice $2,000 benefit I can't use )-:
- Dont know
- No up front cost estimate
Preferred solution: My insurance company to work with my provider (dentice) to cover my benefits of my policy
User's recommendation: Run away from this place, nothing but a rip off place )-;
False listings for providers, no phone service
Dentegra is bad. Provided me with a name of a provider, but then that provider is not in the system. Then when I try to get on the phone, their system is down for an entire day.
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified Reviewer |Problems with claim payment, customer service, and cancellation
- - They have an F-rating with BBB.
- - First cleaning paid $10 of $60; deductible applied; later coverage denied for being over 19; complaint filed.
When I signed up for Dentegra dental insurance, it was one of a few plans offered by the WA Healthcare Finder insurance exchange. I only wished I had taken a deeper dive and read reviews.
They have an F-rating with BBB for a reason.
On my first cleaning, they paid $10 towards a $60 visit. When I called to ask why, I was told the first 450 was deductible, but my next cleaning would be paid for 100%. Six months later, I came out from my second meeting and was told they would not cover me because I was over 19. Im the only adult in my household and had no idea why they would sell me an adult childs dental insurance.
When I called them back to clarify, they said I should have been covered, but they never received a claim.
My dentist told me they have these kinds of problems with Dentegra every time they encounter it, and they do not like dealing with them its not just me having problems with them.
To make a long story short, 3 months later they still hadnt paid the claim I had to pay cash. They also refused to cancel the policy at first, and continued to bill.
Calls to their customer service were not helpful, so I filed a complaint with the WA Insurance Commissioner. The last comment worth making came from my call to WA Healthcare Finder insurance exchange, where they said, This is not really insurance its more of a managed network that should give you a lower price.
THIS IS NOT INSURANCE
- Low quaity product
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: THIS IS NOT INSURANCE
Total Rip-off
- - They pay the percent billed up to a low limit.
- - A $200 visit resulted in $37 paid.
- - Not 90% as promised in the plan documents.
They don't pay the % that is billed in your plan. They pay the % billed up to their artificially low limit.
A $200 routine dental visit, they paid $37. THAT ISNT 90% as promised in the plan documents.
Preferred solution: The company to be sued into oblivion for fraud.
Dentegra does not pay
- - They do not pay and cite profits; HQ is in Milan, Italy.
- - They requested more paperwork after I sent the receipt; no payment.
They do not pay look at their profits, Headquarters is in Milan Italy. Sent receipt, no payment, they ask for one more piece of paper.
They never gave me a list several month one more piece of paper work, the dental office gave be every thing mailed it in, and now they want the dentist to join their organization. They need to be put out of business.no
This is the worst insurance ever!!!!
- - Could not find a dentist; numbers given didn’t work.
- - Offices hadn’t heard of Dentegra.
- - 1 star; unhappy with Dentegra.
I couldnt find a dentist anywhere. The names they were giving me either numbers didnt work or the dentist offices never heard of dentegra.
They only have 1 star. Its not my pick its what my job picked. Now Im pissed that I feel so disrespected that my job of years would even want insurance like that to give is.
Dentegra sucks so bad I said what I said. Sorry not sorry
User's recommendation: Don’t ever choose dentegra
Company changed dental insurance to Dentegra
- - After insurance changed, I was given dentist lists none in-network; I could use any dentist, but three bills are not reimbursed despite 100% coverage.
When insurance changed called company for a list of dentist. I was given a list to look up on the computer, none was in network, called a second time a new list, called a third time a new list, the forth time sent an email list.
No dentist in my area. After several month I was told that I could use a dentist of my choice.
Send in bill that I paid for reimbursement, I have sent bill 3 times, no payment. My bill is covered a 100% and it a lot money.
User's recommendation: If you have a choice do not use
Dentist
Not one dentist was still on the plan
I call they were checking never heard back. Still waiting to hear something
Dentist
When i was told of the dental discount card that I would be covered under, i was given the wrong DR Henry that I made ab appointment with, told her I had UHC, went to the APP after they call and in which, they could not find me listed, and then i called from the office, and it all added up as I was not under that policy but under the discount card. I was very frustrated....
User's recommendation: explain what the discount card covers and by which dentist

Too many inconsistencies with this. If one got over charged or insurance didn't pay for services one should have cancelled on the spot and stopped payment or not pay at all.
It's the customer's fault for continuing to pay the premium. Second, the customer should realize that there is always a 30-day waiting period before insurances cover costs.
Apparently, this customer was too impatient. The customer should have done their research with this company; if they did then they would have seen there are numerous other plans available to suit the customer.
Interesting reply comment - do you have first-hand experience with Dentegra? Perhaps all of the 1 star reviews are also misleading and the customers' fault for relying a a company to do what they advertise...
Please add a positive review, if you can. They could use anything to adjust their average rating.
I did cancel my policy immediately. And I spent 4 months trying to get them to pay.
Does that sound like I'm impatient? You sound like a Dentegra stock owner: delusional.
